Perinatal Loss & Bereavement
Perinatal loss is one of the most raw, distressing and deeply painful experiences of loss in which parents not only grieve the loss of their baby, but also grieve the loss of their conscious and unconscious future hopes, dreams and plans. This form of traumatic and untimely loss disrupts a parent’s entire sense of predictability, innocence and safety in the world. Parents often oscillate between acute traumatic grief orientation and restoration orientation as they navigate the unpredictable waves of grief.
Through a framework of trauma-focused perinatal loss and bereavement, we’ll help you differentiate between normative grief, complicated grief and depression. We’ll support your process towards organizing the narrative of your loss, establish important personal and interpersonal boundaries, cultivate tools to regulate symptoms of anxiety and post-traumatic stress, assimilate and integrate your loss, and find meaning and eternal bonds with your loss over time.
